Wolverhampton Hospital utilises ADT’s Nurse Call system
Staff and patients at The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital NHS Trust are now benefiting from the Medicall® 800 Nursecall system from ADT Fire & Security. Installed in various wards and departments around the hospital and also in the Trust’s new state-of-the-art simulation centre, the easy to install and simple to use system allows staff to locate, prioritise and respond to patient calls quickly and efficiently.
The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital NHS Trust was established in 1994 and provides a range of services for the people of Wolverhampton, the wider Black country, South Staffordshire, North Worcestershire and Shropshire. In addition, it is the largest teaching hospital in the Black Country providing training to over 130 medical students on rotation from the University of Birmingham Medical School.
In 2012, the estates team were required to update the existing nurse call system within the hospital and to select one for the Trust’s new SimWard, a simulated clinical area delivering training in a realistic environment, located in the Trust’s Wolverhampton Medical Institute. At that point, the estates team specified the Medicall® 800 system from ADT Fire & Security.
Medicall® 800 is a nurse call and care communication system, providing numerous call functions, direct communication options, different answer variants and interfaces to other electronic systems. The system helps to improve efficiencies by reducing response time of the relevant personnel as well as enhance patient safety by reducing risk.
The system installed at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospital also includes a Staff Attack system in the Accident and Emergency crisis room, which with the simple press of a button sends a help signal via locally sited ceiling sensors to wherever backup staff are located. This signal will display the precise location of the incident, ensuring a swift response.
“Since 1994, we have had a working relationship with ADT Fire & Security,” explained Brian Sweet, Electrical Manager at The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital, NHS Trust. “As such, when it came to upgrading the existing nurse call system, we were confident that the ADT team would deliver a simple to use and cost effective system that would allow staff to manage alerts from patients appropriately, as well as help protect their own safety on site.”
The Medicall® 800 nurse call system has been specifically developed for hospitals, retirement and nursing homes, rehabilitation clinics and assisted living developments.
Medicall 800 nurse call system facilitates and ensures the effective communication between staff and patients. By utilising the system, staff can locate and respond to calls quickly and efficiently, receiving messages that provide a clear indication of the type of calls in priority order as well as their exact location.
Call information is presented on Liquid Crystal Displays located at strategic points and buildings can be sub-divided into groups or floors of rooms, each with their own area displays. Designed to offer complete flexibility, the configuration of the system can be changed to suit the particular needs of the environment.
Medicall 800 is a highly reliable system that provides intelligent information allowing staff to respond quickly and appropriately to an alert - helping to minimise the risk to patients.
